New Domain Extension “.gay” - Early Access Coming March 2020

Domain name company Top Level Design announced the launch of the generic Top Level Domain (gTLD) “.gay” after a nearly decade-long application process.

The .gay domain extension is a step forward that signals support for the LGBTQ community within the World Wide Web. According to JD Supra, domains with the .gay extension will be available for registration through March 31, 2020, open to businesses that have their trademark validated with the Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH).

By purchasing a .gay domain, companies can support and celebrate LGBTQ communities – 20 percent of all new registration revenue will automatically be donated to nonprofit partners to help address key issues facing LGBTQ people.

Why Does This Matter?

The new .gay registry is committed to set higher standards by ensuring that all websites that use the .gay domain remain free from harassment and anti-LGBTQ content, while simultaneously creating more gay-friendly spaces on the internet.
