Drag Story Time (CO)
Jimi Urquiaga, also known by their drag name Missleidy Rodriguez, gathered over 50 NYC-based drag performers for a fairytale-themed shoot.
Each performer had to select a beloved fairytale character and bring it to life with drag. The goal of the shoot was to create an artistic response to the anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation and rhetoric that has been sweeping the US.
“It’s an intentionally malicious strategy by conservative politicians and media to direct the attention to drag artists (and by their reductive understanding of our community, trans people) to distract from their lack of viable public policy or ability to imagine and implement the fresh ideas this country needs to thrive in the future,” Missleidy told Them where the main shoot by photographer Tawfick was published.
