justice for o’shae sibley

On the early evening of Friday, August 4, members of the LGBTQIA+ community gathered at a Coney Island Exxon & Mobil gas station to mourn the death of O’Shae Sibley who was killed there just a few days ago while pumping gas with friends and voguing to Beyoncé.

The event was organized by Qween Jean of the community organization Black Trans Liberation, LGBTQ+ center Destination Tomorrow, community service Ballroom, We Care Inc., community #HouseLivesMatter, and a nonprofit organization The NEW Pride Agenda, with support from Caribbean Equality Project, G.L.I.T.S., and NYC Anti-Violence Project. The meetup started at 6 PM at the gas station and culminated in a memorial ball and protest on the streets of Brooklyn, ending up at the Kings Highway train station around 10 PM.

O’Shae was 28 and his killer is 17. Just a few hours before the memorial, the teenager who stabbed O’Shae to death turned himself in to the police.
